Sub-Group Corps

Specialized Sub-Groups of the Corps

In addition to tutoring, recruiting volunteers, and service projects, smaller groups of members also provide specialized services.

Team Leader Corps
One member from each school site (85 statewide) holds additional responsibilities.  These members demonstrate leadership skills and attend three statewide leadership trainings in Jackson.  Additional  responsibilities as a member school site team leader include:  responsible for assisting the site supervisor and regional staff for overall coordination and successful implementation of ARM at the school site, timely management of regular reporting reqirements, and serves as the primary member at the school, and not receive additional compensation for their team leader service. 

America Learns Sub-Corps
85 members with one from each school site complete a weekly tutoring survey via the America Learns website.  This website provides:  resources and strategies for ARM AmeriCorps members to assist them with tutoring;  weekly real-time data related for staff to track progress toward performance measures, member training effectiveness, national service day project impact, and other program related matters for improved program management, evaluation, and reporting.

 Emergency Response Sub-Corps
Approximately 50 members (one from each county & eleven additional members) who will receive specialized emergency response training so they can be quickly and effectively mobilized to respond in a state emergency or disaster to help others in need. Members must be able to be activated and possibly leave home for awhile in the event of a state emergency or disaster should occur. This group will travel to the Mississippi Gulf Coast to assist with recovery efforts after the school day ends or on weekends and over school breaks.

Future Teacher Sub-Corps
Approximately 30 members who have strong commitment and goals of becoming a classroom teacher in Mississippi will be given the opportunity to receive additional specialized teacher preparation that will include conference attendance, additional trainings and resources and information on teacher fairs. Members must classify as a college Jr. or hold an AA Degree and eligible to take Praxis I or II.


Mentoring Sub-Corps
A pilot group of 30 members will serve and act as positive role models with students from the Mississippi Job Corps Campus. ARM members will make at least two visits to the campus and involve the students in at least one service project. Specialized training on roles, boundaries and relationship building will be provided to members.
