To become an America Reads - Mississippi member, contact a program staff member to locate the Regional University office in the area you are interested in serving and to learn more about the service opportunity, length of the service term, and program benefits.
Basic Requirements: Age: At least 17 years old, although some service sites require you to be at least 18. Education: 2 years of college (48 earned college hours) or pass the ACT Workkeys Test with a 4 in Workplace Documents. Pass an FBI/State Background check. COVID-19 Specific Requirements: Be willing to serve in person at the school site. Have access to adequate technology and a reasonably distraction free area for virtual tutoring (in the event of school closure).
All AmeriCorps members receive training at the beginning of their service, as well as project-specific training during service. Additionally, ARM members gain and/or enhance valuable professional skills through training at the regional university centers (in person or virtual), school site sponsored trainings, and training sponsored by Volunteer Mississippi.
